From the snow-capped majesty of Kilimanjaro to the shimmering “pink” shores of the Rift Valley, this five-day expedition explores three of Kenya’s most distinct ecosystems. It is a journey of contrasts: moving from the ancient elephant corridors of the south to the aquatic bird havens and rhino sanctuaries of the central volcanic lakes.
Morning: Depart Nairobi early for the drive south through the Maasai plains. As you approach the park, the clouds often part to reveal the massive, snow-covered dome of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Afternoon: After lunch and a brief rest, head out for an afternoon game drive. Focus on the park’s famous “Big Tuskers”—huge bull elephants that frame perfectly against the mountain backdrop.
Evening: Visit Observation Hill for a sunset view over the Enkongo Narok marshes, where hippos and buffalo congregate.
Overnight: Amboseli.
Full Day: Spend a dedicated day tracking the diverse wildlife of Amboseli. Explore the dried-up bed of Lake Amboseli (which creates shimmering mirages) and the lush green swamps fed by the mountain’s meltwater.
Activity: Beyond elephants, look for cheetahs on the salt flats and lions near the marsh edges. This is also a fantastic day for birding, with over 400 species recorded in the park.
Overnight: Amboseli.
Morning: An early breakfast before the long drive north. You’ll bypass Nairobi and descend into the Great Rift Valley, stopping at the viewpoint for a breathtaking look at the dormant volcanoes that dot the valley floor.
Afternoon: Arrive at Lake Naivasha for a boat safari. Drift past massive hippo pods and watch African Fish Eagles hunt from the yellow-backed acacia trees.
Late Afternoon: Disembark at Crescent Island for a walking safari. Since there are no predators, you can walk among giraffes and zebras, providing a rare sense of being “part of the herd.”
Overnight: Naivasha.
Morning: A short, scenic 2-hour drive takes you to Lake Nakuru National Park. This park is completely fenced, making it one of Kenya’s most successful sanctuaries for both Black and White Rhinos.
Afternoon: Spend the afternoon searching for the Rothschild’s giraffe and the park’s famous tree-climbing lions. Head to the lakeshore to see the spectacular gathering of flamingos and pelicans that turn the water a shimmering pink.
Overnight: Lake Nakuru.
Early Morning: Embark on a final sunrise game drive. This is your best chance to spot the elusive leopard, which is often seen in the dense woodlands surrounding the lake.
Late Morning: Visit Baboon Cliff for a panoramic view of the entire lake and the surrounding escarpment.
Afternoon: Enjoy a final bush breakfast before the return drive to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
The Kilimanjaro View: Amboseli offers the most iconic photographic backdrop in all of Africa.
The Rhino Haven: Lake Nakuru is arguably the best place in Kenya to see both species of rhino in a single game drive.
On-Foot Adventure: The walking safari in Naivasha offers a quiet, intimate contrast to the traditional vehicle-based game drives.
