9 DAYS LAKE MAGADI, LAKE NAKURU, MASAI MARA SAFARI

Morning: Depart Nairobi, descending the escarpment toward the southernmost reach of the Kenyan Rift. Stop at the Olorgesailie Prehistoric Site to see the world-oldest hand axes and learn about the early humans who once roamed this valley. 

​Afternoon: Arrive at the shimmering, pink-hued Lake Magadi. The landscape here is otherworldly, with a white salt crust reflecting the brilliant sky. Visit the natural hot springs for a therapeutic soak while watching thousands of flamingos feeding in the soda waters. 

​Overnight: Magadi (e.g., Lentorre or Lake Magadi Tented Camp). 

Full Day: Explore the Olkirimatian and Shompole Conservancies. This area provides a rugged, off-the-beaten-path safari experience. Track lions and leopards against the dramatic backdrop of the Nguruman Escarpment.

Activity: As evening falls, enjoy a night game drive to seek out rare nocturnal species like the striped hyena or aardwolf, which are more easily spotted in this arid terrain.

​Overnight: Magadi.

Morning: A long but incredibly scenic drive north, winding through the valley floor and past the volcanic mountains of Suswa and Longonot.

​Afternoon: Arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park. Set out for an afternoon game drive in this world-renowned rhino sanctuary. Nakuru offers one of the best chances to see both Black and White rhinos in a single afternoon.

​Overnight: Lake Nakuru.

Full Day: Spend the day exploring the park’s diverse habitats, from the yellow-fever acacia forests to the rocky cliffs.

​Highlight: Drive to Baboon Cliff for a bird’s-eye view of the lake, which is often fringed by a pink ribbon of flamingos. Focus on finding the Rothschild’s giraffe and the park’s famous tree-climbing lions.

​Overnight: Lake Nakuru.

Morning: Depart Nakuru and head southwest toward the world-famous Maasai Mara National Reserve.

​Afternoon: After lunch and a brief rest, set out for your introductory game drive. Even in these first few hours, the sheer density of wildlife—from elephants to big cats—is immediately apparent.

Full Day: Head toward the Mara River, home to colossal Nile crocodiles and large pods of hippos. During the migration season (July–October), this is where the dramatic river crossings occur. Focus on the behavior and social dynamics of the resident lion prides along the riverine forests.
