Morning: Depart Nairobi and head north, watching the lush central highlands transition into the semi-arid beauty of the north.
Afternoon: Arrive in Samburu National Reserve for a late afternoon game drive along the Ewaso Nyiro River. This is the best time to see elephants coming to the water to bathe.

Full Day: Dedicate the day to tracking the “Samburu Special Five”—the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx, and the Gerenuk.
Activity: Explore the riverine forests and rugged hills. The high density of leopards in this park makes for thrilling afternoon searches among the acacia branches.

Activity: Spend time with the Rendille people, observing how they manage their livestock in one of the most arid regions on Earth.

Morning: Leave the salt pans behind as you traverse rocky volcanic fields to reach the shores of Lake Turkana, the world’s largest permanent desert lake.
Afternoon: Arrive in Loiyangalani. The first sight of the lake’s vibrant turquoise waters—the “Jade Sea”—against the black volcanic rock is unforgettable.
Overnight: Loiyangalani.
Morning: Take a boat excursion to Central Island National Park. This volcanic island features three crater lakes, one of which is a significant breeding ground for Nile crocodiles.
Afternoon: Visit the El Molo, Kenya’s smallest ethnic group. Learn about their unique fishing culture and how they have adapted to life on the edge of the lake.
Overnight: Loiyangalani.
Morning: Begin the ascent out of the Turkana basin. The return journey offers a chance to see the changing terrain from a new perspective as you climb back toward the highlands.
